Why Yoga?

B.K.S. Iyengar calls yoga Meditation in Action. It's more than just exercising – it is a complete mind and body workout, healing the brain while at the same time correcting body posture and building muscle strength.

Pain Relief
Many people to come to yoga after an accident or injury. Some come after years of sitting in front of a computer with poor posture. Practiced correctly, yoga brings the body back to proper alignment, helping to relieve back, neck, joint and muscle problems.

Increased Strength
Yoga strengthens entire muscle sets, starting with the muscles closest to the bone. While traditional weightlifting workouts focus on building one muscle at time, yoga postures work on multiple muscle groups simultaneously, with the benefit of teaching the muscles how to work together.

Improved Circulation
Yoga improves circulation throughout the body, allowing blood to bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to your cells, increasing your motor functions and allowing you to think more clearly.

Mental Clarity
Do you have too many things to do – so many ideas and thoughts running through your mind that you can’t focus? Yoga brings a stillness and quietness to the brain. Your mind relaxes, allowing you to think more calmly and more clearly.

Stress Relief
Are you sometimes feeling overwhelmed and out of
control? Yoga reduces levels of the stress-related
hormone cortisol. In addition, yoga can lower blood
pressure and heart rate, as well as reduce levels of
anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Flexibility
When you were a kid, you could touch your toes. What happened? Yoga helps bring back the elasticity to long ignored or misused muscles, ligaments and tendons. Yoga improves range of motion, gradually reducing everyday aches and pains, and bringing proper alignment to the spine.

Better Breathing
Many people walk through life out of breath, for no reason at all. Yoga teaches the body to breath deeper and more slowly. The lungs become stronger, allowing the breath to move freely throughout the body. And deeper breathing helps the body to naturally relax.

Inner Peace
Yoga is meditation in action. While many people come to yoga initially to reduce physical pain and stress, they often stay for the overall calmness that yoga promotes from within.
